happy birthday mom

today is my mom's birthday. here are 56 things I love about my mom:

1. she is my friend
2. she has a great network of girlfriends that hold each other accountable
3. she is independent
4. she loves my dad and shows it
5. even though I used to say they didn’t kiss enough when I was younger (what?!)
6. her garden is her happy place
7. she feeds the birds and squirrels in her backyard
8. she has the gift of hospitality
9. she is learning to text message on her phone
11. but is annoyed at how long it takes
12. she has lived in only three towns her whole life
13. kennewick, colfax and pasco
14. and I wish that I had her contentedness
15. she loves jesus
16. she is very involved with her church
17. she has always been open and understanding
18. about anything I’ve ever needed/wanted to talk about
19. and I appreciate her willingness to share
20. she loves mcdonald’s iced coffees
21. medium vanilla with three extra creamers, please
22. her favorite salad is from casa mia
23. she cannot eat mcdonald’s chicken nuggets anymore
24. because of the time she got the flu right after the last time she ate them
25. she LOVES johnny mathis
26. her favorite song of his is the “twelfth of never”
27. she also loves barry manillow
28. and took me and my sister to a concert once
29. it wasn’t half bad, I actually sort of liked it
30. I have fond memories of late nights when dad was working
31. and we took trips to 7-11 to get m & ms, diet coke and hot dogs
32. I blame her for my addiction to convenience stores and diet soda
33. she once had me and my sister fake being asleep when dad came home on break
34. because we’d been out late getting snacks
35. he never knew we weren’t really sleep (until now of course!)
36. she is a great cook but she also gave me my love of eating out (thanks mom!)
37. she makes the BEST pancakes and waffles, I dream about them
38. she breaks into song at the mere mention of a word that reminds her of a tune
39. (I pretend this annoys me but it actually makes me laugh)
40. she has discovered she loves pedicures
41. and gets them more regularly than I do!
42. she stayed at home while we were younger
43. and I appreciated her availability
44. she says I was a perfect child
45. I know she is fibbing a little but it still makes me happy
46. she has a close relationship with her sister
47. she and my dad met and married within a 9 month period
48. she forgave him after not calling for two weeks after their first meeting
49. that’s true love
50. she has the gift of compassion and is always thinking of others
51. she always gives me good advice when I ask
52. she recently bought me an andrea bocelli dvd/cd and encourages my new love of opera
53. she went to italy over 30 years ago and her stories and memories are as vivid as if the trip were yesterday
54. her love of italy has fueled mine
55. she has dealt with being the wife of a law enforcement/military man with grace
56. she wants the best for me and encourages me in whatever life decision I make

happy birthday mom! I love you.

(*note to self: take more photos of mom and me, it's sad how few there are. even fewer are the ones she would want me to use, hence the solo shot of her above! it's her birthday, there is no way I'm putting a photo up that she would be unhappy with. do you think I'm crazy?!)

Your mom raised a pretty great daughter, so even though I don't know her, I know she's an amazing woman who deserves a wonderful birthday!

marilyn: she is amazing and she did have a great day, 5 hours of beauty getting her toes done, a facial, a massage, and her hair cut and colored. she most definitely deserved it all!

lisa: me too! casa mia rocks! plus some of their garlic bread with the marinara sauce for dipping...man, I'm hungry!
